Hundreds of Chicago-Area Hebrew Students Come Together to Celebrate Israeli Culture
Shorashim’s Club Israel will present its third annual excursion day for Hebrew Students this Monday and Tuesday November 2 and 3, 2009 at the Wlimette Theater and Congregation Beth Hillel B'nai Emunah. The excursion day is an opportunity for students and teachers alike to enjoy Israeli cinema, food, and music. The program, now in its third year has grown and includes: Evanston Township, New Trier, Niles North, Niles West, Highland Park, Deerfield, Glenbrook South, and Chicagoland Jewish High Schools
In conjunction with the Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema, students will view the movie The Name My Mother Gave Me, an extraordinary documentary about 18 year old Ethiopian and Russian immigrants undergoing a personal transformation.
On Monday, the movie's director Eli Tal-El will speak with students about the making of the film. On Tuesday, three singers - one originally from Ethiopia and one originally from Russia - who performed on the show Kochav Nolad (the Israeli version of American Idol) will discuss the movie, their experiences, and will perform for the students.
