Camp Kef - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the dates of the program?
July 4 - July 29. Four weeks, Sunday - Thursday.

What do we do at Camp Kef?
The Camp program has all of the activities of a summer camp, plus you will form a community with Israeli friends your own age. Each week, you will take a trip outside of the Camp for different exciting experiences.

What makes Shorashim unique?
Shorashim is not a "tour" or a "trip", but rather a life-changing experience. Tours and trips go from place to place seeing important sights and hearing about history and culture. Shorashim helps you to live and experience these places through the eyes of Israelis and truly helps you to understand Israel and your relationship to it.

Where do the Israeli campers come from?
Israeli participants are from the Jerusalem area and are excited to be in camp with American peers. In Shorashim, learning and understanding is a two-way process, and you are as much a part of the educational experience as they are. By the end of the program, you will have touched each other's lives, and you will have experienced Israel not as a tourist, but as a part of the Shorashim family.

How much do the programs cost?
The four week session is $850. In order to hold your space in the Camp Kef Program, full payment is due immediately. There is a 10% discount ($765) for a second child and a 15% discount ($722.50) for any additional children. For example: three children is $850 + $765 + $722.50 = a total of $2337.50.

Can we go for part of the 4-week session?
There is a prorated weekly rate of $250/week which runs from Sun - Thurs. There is no multiple child discount, and there is no proration for days not used in a calander week. Please note we will give preferred acceptance to applicants who are attending all four weeks of the program.

Can we register in Israel? Is there a discount?
If you reside in the U.S. or Canada, you must register through our U.S. office. The fee is slightly higher for non-Israeli residents and reflects the differentiated insurance costs. The cost of the program is highly subsidized by generous support from our donors to Shorashim projects. We know that you will find the program a deeply-enriching value for the money. If you can afford it, and would like to make a "tuition gap" donation to cover the full cost of the program, please contact us.
